BEING BOTH
A talk about multicultural identity & dual citizenship in Japan with filmmaker Megumi Nishikura

Through film clips, personal stories, and real-life cases from her ongoing documentary research, filmmaker Megumi Nishikura explores what it means to raise children between Japan and the United States in a society where dual citizenship remains legally and emotionally complex.

Drawing from her acclaimed documentary HAFU and her current film project on Japan’s nationality law, Nishikura reflects on identity, belonging, and the messages multicultural children absorb about who they are allowed to be.

Designed for parents raising bicultural and binational children, this event invites open conversation around citizenship, family, and belonging in Japan today.

This event is also a fundraiser supporting the completion of Nishikura’s upcoming documentary exploring dual citizenship and identity in Japan.
